The journey began in Denver and followed US 285 south through Colorado, with the Great Sand Dunes as its primary destination.
The dunes were chosen for their extraordinary alignment with Cowboys & Caftans’ creative identity and the energy of the collection’s flagship piece, the original Mustang silk ikat caftan.
From there, we continued to Pagosa Junction, a former railroad and lumber settlement on Southern Ute Reservation land near the New Mexico border. Once a working junction connecting the region’s timber industry to the wider railroad network, the settlement is now largely abandoned. Its surviving rail structures and St. John the Baptist Mission Church, built in 1927, offered an extraordinary setting for another Cowboys & Caftans original, the Custom Heart Caftan.
Here, the textures of industrial Colorado met the elegance of handwoven silk. The faded pinks and greens of the mission, weathered wood, and remnants of the railroad echoed the character of the Old Money collection without competing with the clothing.
Changing light, open roads, sand, mountains, railroad remnants, and unexpected moments gave the collection room to move beyond conventional product photography.
The resulting images are not generated scenes or simulated environments. They are photographs made on location with the people, clothing, and places that express the authenticity of the brand.
